Pajta is a Michelin-starred destination restaurant in Őriszentpéter, surrounded by the forests, meadows and villages of the Őrség National Park. Opened in 2012 with only four tables, it has grown into an internationally recognised address while keeping a personal relationship with its guests. The kitchen is led by István Akács and Yazmin Salazar, whose shared work brings Hungarian ingredients together with subtle Mexican influences. With Kástu cabins nearby, Pajta offers a full experience built around gastronomy and nature.

Hungarian Ingredients with Mexican Accents
Pajta’s cuisine is contemporary, seasonal and closely tied to its landscape. István Akács brings experience from leading European and Scandinavian kitchens, while Mexican-born chef and pastry chef Yazmin Salazar adds acidity, spice, texture and Latin American references with great control. Together, they work with local ingredients, organic produce and wild mushrooms, building menus that are progressive but still anchored in the region. Dishes are developed with restraint, so the quality and natural flavour of each product stay clear, supported by balance, depth and clean structure.

Slow down at Kástu
Pajta and the nearby Kástu cabins are made for guests who want the experience to continue beyond dinner. A stay can include a Michelin-starred meal, time in nature, sauna sessions, cycling and walks along the surrounding trails. Kástu sits about 25 minutes on foot from the restaurant, close enough to make the connection natural, far enough to create a real pause. The experience suits couples, hikers, culinary travellers and small corporate groups who want privacy, fresh air and a slower rhythm in the Őrség countryside.

Őriszentpéter and Beyond
Pajta is located in Őriszentpéter, in southwest Hungary near the western border. The town is the cultural heart of the Őrség region and home to the headquarters of Őrség National Park. Forests, valleys, lakes and traditional villages make the area ideal for hiking and cycling at an easy pace. Őriszentpéter is also known for its seven-hill settlement structure, pottery traditions, pumpkin seed oil and the thirteenth-century Saint Peter church, a Romanesque landmark set on a hilltop.

From Four Tables
Pajta began in 2012 with four tables and a clear intention: honest hospitality, thoughtful cooking and memorable evenings in the countryside. That smaller beginning still matters. The restaurant has grown in recognition, including a Michelin star, but its identity remains personal and close to the guest. Service, wine pairings, the kitchen’s rhythm and the surrounding landscape all contribute to the same feeling. Dinner is treated as a full arc, starting at arrival and lasting until the guest leaves.

Producers and Forests
The kitchen’s relationship with the region is practical and personal. István and Yazmin work with producers, seasonal ingredients, organic produce and wild mushrooms, and they also spend time exploring the surrounding forests together. That search for ingredients becomes part of the restaurant’s creative process. The menus change continuously, following availability rather than a fixed formula. This gives Pajta its sense of movement: each visit reflects the season, the landscape and the two chefs’ shared curiosity.

Kástu Cabins
Kástu Kabinházak is Pajta’s accommodation project in the heart of Őrség. Designed by architect Gábor U. Nagy, the seven minimalist cabins for two are built largely from high-quality wood and shaped by the old two-storey larder once used in the region. From the bed, guests can see the starry sky; from the shower, a wide meadow. Each cabin includes a kitchenette with a wine cooler and premium filter coffee. The cabins complete the Pajta experience for guests seeking nature, intimacy and time to breathe.
“Pajta and Kástu invite guests to slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy time without unnecessary distractions.”
