Chef Bernard’s culinary education started under renowned chef Priska Thuring. Eager to continue his education, Bernard joined Slovenian restaurant Hiša Franko for an internship, but only one month later chef Ana Roš offered him a full-time job as sous-chef. In the winter, when the restaurant was closed, Bernard worked at Osteria Francescana with top chef Massimo Bottura. Next, Bernard decided to return home and open a restaurant in the local community of Jastrebarsko. At restaurant Korak, he conjures up the finest regional Croatian cuisine. Bernard's inherent curiosity and tenacity set him apart from other chefs and made him a coveted addition to some of the world's finest kitchens.

In the rolling hills near Zagreb lies the town of Jastrebarsko. Here you will find restaurant Korak, meaning “a step” in Croatian. This cozy establishment was founded within the family winery and marks an important step forward in the development of the gastronomic scene in Plešivica, a renowned wine region that many call “the Croatian Champagne”. Korak has the honour of being the first fine-dining restaurant in the region. The restaurant is a project of talented young chef Bernard Korak, whose goal is to connect local producers, gastronomic heritage, and a touch of nature. The unwritten kitchen rule of Bernard is, "if it's not in season, it's off the table."
