Restaurant Plavi Podrum

On the waterfront of the idyllic Volosko cove, you’ll find the restaurant Plavi Podrum. Boasting over 110 years of tradition, the kitchen serves exciting Mediterranean and Istrian specialties such as scampi, truffles, and shellfish – all sourced from the Adriatic Sea. Nestled in a harbour, Plavi Podrum is the oldest restaurant on the Opatija Riviera. Nonetheless, it has been honoured multiple times for its fantastic contemporary European cuisine which showcases a beautiful blend of the traditional and the modern. It’s the only Croatian restaurant to be ranked twice on the prestigious S. Pellegrino 100 Best Restaurants in the World list (2008 and 2010) and has dominated the gourmet scene on a local level as well. In addition to its cuisine, the restaurant also offers exquisite wines, carefully selected by owner Daniela Kramarić, who is Croatia’s most renowned sommelier. If the weather allows it you can wine and dine on the outdoor terrace, a few meters from the sea.

Plavi Podrum’s cuisine

Plavi Podrum’s seasonal menu revolves around fresh, daily-sourced ingredients from the Kvarner Bay. Such as scampi, Adriatic fish, and Istrian white truffles. Tastes, textures, aromas: it all comes together in the chef’s beautifully presented dishes. Expect signature dishes like three-colored tagliolini with scampi, peaches, and black Istrian truffles. As well as fillet of fish on pumpkin and coriander purée served with sea bass. For dessert, you have numerous mouth-watering options. Think of Nona’s apple pie topped with vanilla ginger ice-cream, and a drop of 25-year old Manicardi aceto. Or one of their dessert classics: Rapska torta (traditional Croatian cake). In addition to the Mediterranean cuisine with local ingredients, sommelier Daniela Kramarić presents one of the country’s best wine lists. Her selection includes 250 labels, among which excellent wines from Croatia, Italy, and France. High-quality Croatian olive oils are also available to complement your culinary experience. You’ll be amazed at what a drizzle of perfect olive oil can do.
