Mart Scherp
Mart was only 19 when he completed his culinary education. Right after this, he joined the kitchen of two Michelin-starred restaurant Inter Scaldes as a sous-chef. Next, Mart became head-chef at restaurant De Bourgondiër in Vlissingen. In 2007, together with his partner Dhani Mart decided it’s time for their own establishment. Dhani and Mart start a restaurant and B&B in Middelburg called Scherp, where Mart is the chef and Dhani completes the team as hostess and sommelier.

Restaurant Scherp
On the menu, you’ll find a wide range of international dishes paired with locally-sourced ingredients, fresh seafood, and fine wines. Imagine fine sashimi of yellowtail fish from the nearby village Kats, or an excellent glass of Brut de Zélande from Schouwen-Duiveland.
Sommelier Dhani Scherp-Zapata has harmoniously integrated the wine list with the kitchen. At restaurant Scherp you can taste Zeeland, with a contemporary and original twist. This not only applies to the menu, but also to the interior of the restaurant and B&B, which gives you a warm welcome.
Scherp’s cuisine
Chef Mart Scherp feels privileged to be able to work with so many beautiful regional products in Zeeland. With a lot of love, dedication, and passion for the culinary profession, he uses this in his delicious dishes.
Specialties on the menu include North Sea sole with cannelloni wild prawns, spinach, cream cheese, zucchini and fennel, and the beef steak with cheese-churro, roasted tomato, chicory, green asparagus and béarnaise mayonnaise.
Ambiance
Located in the heart of Middelburg, restaurant Scherp offers diners a modern luxurious setting for an excellent culinary experience. Besides dinners, the restaurant is also open to host various events. On the first floor of the building there are two rooms that are available for private meetings, lunches and dinners.
Interesting sights within walking distance from the restaurant include the Zeeuws Museum, which displays traditional Zeeland costumes and contemporary artworks inside a historic 12th-century abbey. And the Long John Abbey Tower, as well as many other churches.
B&B Sleep at Scherp
B&B Sleep at Scherp offers guests a choice between four B&B apartments, each with its own character and Zeeland ambiance. Sleeping at Scherp is like staying in a luxury hotel, but better: you have the privacy of an apartment and the personal touch of a bed and breakfast. Each apartment is individually decorated and features a terrace, air conditioning, a minibar, a TV, and a seating area. All rooms come with a kitchenette and a private bathroom.
