Chef Julien Lainé, L'Orangerie, Pornic, France

Julien Lainé – From Experience to Expression

After working with names like Alain Dutournier, Jean-Michel Lorrain and Alain Ducasse, Julien Lainé chose Pornic as the place to open his own restaurant. He brings over 20 years of experience, but prefers to keep the atmosphere informal and focused. His cooking is grounded in local produce and driven by the seasons, but it’s also guided by instinct and playfulness. With each new menu, he explores flavour, texture and scent in surprising ways — always aiming to make dining a sensory experience, not just a meal.

“Cooking is about creating moments that speak to the senses, in connection with what’s around us.

L’Orangerie is chef Julien Lainé’s personal take on seasonal, local cuisine, just a short stroll from the port of Pornic. Set in a light-filled space with colourful dining rooms and an open kitchen, the restaurant offers a laid-back but thoughtful approach to fine dining. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service attentive, and the menu reflects years of experience combined with a fresh, coastal mindset. Everything here is about flavour, generosity and sincerity — a relaxed but carefully considered restaurant where good humour and good food go hand in hand.
