G7

A Table in the Historic Gruizenkerkje

G7 sits in the 1634 Gruizenkerkje in the heart of Sittard, a restored monument where contemporary dining meets centuries of history. The restaurant spans the old church and the adjoining 1593 timber-framed house, creating an intimate space shaped by soft light, flowing curtains and warm materials. Guests choose a menu of eight, ten or fourteen creations, revealed only through a hint of ingredients to keep the experience fresh and surprising. Much of the produce comes from G7’s own vegetable garden in Montfort and the pluktuin beside the restaurant, supported by local growers who share their respect for origin.

The Cooking at G7

Chef Rik Opstals cooks with a clear vision: start close to home and treat the product with precision. His French-leaning style is shaped by fresh tones, balanced contrasts and modern techniques that give familiar ingredients a new perspective. The menu changes with what the garden, pluktuin and local producers offer. Excess harvest is pickled, dried or preserved for winter, anchoring the kitchen in its own landscape. The result is a sequence of creations that feel intuitive rather than showy, with flavour as the central thread and an emphasis on clarity, depth and clean execution.

Events, Tastings and Seasonal Experiences

G7 offers more than a dinner service. Private dining is available in the glass-fronted kitchen space, where guests can watch the team at work. Seasonal events highlight the harvest from the garden, including tastings built around preserved produce from earlier in the year. The drinks menu features local sparkling aperitifs and a large selection of Limburg wines available by the glass, thanks to the Coravin system.

Sittard and Its Surroundings

G7 is located in the historic centre of Sittard, one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands. The restaurant’s setting in the Gruizenkerkje brings a quiet, almost hidden atmosphere, steps away from narrow streets, local boutiques and the town’s green edges. The region is known for its Limburg hospitality, rolling landscapes and easy access to Belgium and Germany. It is a place where heritage and openness meet, making G7 an ideal stop for a weekend trip or a long lunch in the south.

A Restaurant Shaped by Its Garden

The vegetable garden in Montfort is central to G7’s identity. It provides the foundation for the menus, from herbs and flowers to vegetables picked the same morning. Anything in excess is preserved, allowing the team to stay connected to their own seasons even in winter. This circular approach extends to the pluktuin beside the restaurant, where compost from the kitchen enriches the soil that feeds the next harvest.

“Everything starts in the garden. When we cook with what grows around us, the menu writes itself."
