Short Seasons, Sharp Focus
David Žefran’s menu follows the rhythm of the Alps, where seasons are short, intense and sometimes unforgiving. Preservation plays an important role, with ingredients saved during warmer months for the long winter ahead. The kitchen uses wild berries, mountain herbs, conifer branches and regional produce from Slovenia, Austria and Italy, chosen by proximity rather than borders. Dishes are modern and creative, yet built around natural flavour. Žefran’s aim is to amplify the ingredient, using technique to make it clearer, deeper and more expressive.
Breakfast by the Lake
Milka’s breakfast experience is open to everyone, not only hotel guests. It is served as a set menu and brings the same Alpine thinking into the morning, with local produce, specialty coffee, tea and juice. For overnight guests, it becomes part of a wider stay by Lake Jasna, but it also gives outside visitors a more accessible way to experience Milka’s hospitality. The restaurant’s broader approach stays the same: high standards, relaxed service and a strong connection to the ingredients, craft and nature around Kranjska Gora.
Julian Alps Setting
Milka looks towards Triglav National Park, placing guests directly in one of Slovenia’s strongest outdoor regions. Kranjska Gora is known for skiing, snowboarding and Nordic trails in winter, while warmer months bring hiking, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, swimming in Alpine lakes and routes towards the Vršič Pass. Planica, famous for ski jumping and ski flights, is only a few kilometres away. The setting is part of the reason to come: dinner can follow a day in the mountains, by the lake or moving through the valleys.
Beyond the Wine Pairing
Milka’s beverage programme gives Slovenian wine culture a serious platform, from established names to small growers across the country. The list also reaches into Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Carinthia, Styria and classic French regions. Cocktails are made in-house and inspired by Alpine nature, served over ice made from Slovenian spring water. Non-alcoholic pairings are treated with the same care, with chef and barman working together on juices that follow the food closely. Coffee and tea also have their place, including hand-picked teas dried at the restaurant.
Six Rooms Above Jasna
Boutique Hotel Milka has six individually styled rooms, divided between three suites and three luxury doubles on the rooftop floor. Each room looks out over Lake Jasna and the Julian Alps, with interiors that reference local culture and the surrounding landscape. The hotel was shaped by international hospitality standards, while keeping the feeling small, personal and calm. Overnight guests also have access to a Finnish sauna for two people throughout the day. For diners, it offers the chance to turn Milka into a full Alpine stay.
“At Milka, the Alps shape the seasons, the ingredients, the craft and the way we welcome people.”
