Philipp’s cuisine
Owners Heike and Michael Philipp are proud to have been honoured with a Michelin star for over 10 years. Restaurant Philipp also ranks among the best 100 restaurants in the whole of Germany. In the kitchen, only the best fresh seasonal products find their way to chef Michael Philipp's stove. The menu completely depends on the season. For example, those who visit Sommerhausen in spring can enjoy delicious asparagus. Summer is the time that Philipp spoils his guests by serving them fresh fish and crunchy vegetables. And in autumn, he creates real delicacies like Scottish salmon, while in winter an exquisite saddle of venison is listed on the menu. His partner and sommelier, Heike Philipp, was named Sommelière des Jahres 2020 by the Aral Schlemmer Atlas. She will perfectly pair each dish with an excellent glass of wine, to complete your gastronomic experience.
Sommerhausen surroundings
Philipp restaurant is housed in a lovely 400-year-old building in the center of this picturesque wine-growing village. This Sommerhausen inn offers historic country charm with its wooden floors, and wall panelling in a cozy, elegant style. The Bavarian region offers visitors a number of reasons to love it: the hearty cuisine, the beer, the good red wine from Franconia, its dialect, the Bavarian way of life, and the stunning landscape. The area is great for hiking through the small fortified towns with historical townscapes like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and to visit the many “biergartens” in Munich. In autumn you can join the world-famous festival Oktoberfest. And don’t forget to check out the highest point of the federal state, the 2963-meter-high Zugspitze. From here you have a breathtaking view of the stunning mountains of the Alps under the Bavarian blue sky.
