Hanneke grew up in Curaçao. After studying journalism in Utrecht, she returned to the Netherlands to work as a journalist for the daily Amigoe. In Curaçao, she met Remco and together with him she moved to the Netherlands in 1989, working as a journalist for regional radio station Omroep Gelderland. When Remco and Hanneke became owners of Hoog Holten in 1995, she slowly but surely made the switch to the hospitality industry. At first, still alongside her job as a radio journalist, but it soon became clear that being a hostess suited her down to the ground. Since 2019, Hanneke has been ultimately responsible for Hoog Holten.
